This tour will explore the unique charms of Kameoka, through a number of sustainability-conscious sightseeing experiences while interacting with local people.

Torokko Saga Station → Kameoka Station
Approx. 23 minutes by train

Enjoy the spectacular view of Hozu Gorge from the train in each of the four seasons.
Feel the pleasant breeze through the open windows as you move from Arashiyama to Kameoka.
Kameoka, the terminus of the train, is a different world with its peaceful countryside landscape.

Rental bicycles from Kameoka Station will be our eco-friendly method of transportation.
Enjoy the scenery as we ride along the Hozu River and through the peaceful countryside as well as the quaint quiet neighborhoods of Kameoka.

KIRI CAFE
Duration approx. 2 hour

See a traditional Japanese house, renovated and converted into a cozy cafe.
Make your own "HOZUBAG" by upcycling discarded paraglider fabric.
Choose from many colors and patterns to make your own, one of a kind personal bag.
Finish off the experience with a delicious curry lunch from organic local vegetables and fruit.

Rokuya Wonder Village
Duration approx. 5 hours 30 minutes

2.5ha of abandoned land were reclaimed and cultivated by a local community into an organic farm village, where you can experience harvesting organic vegetables.
Participate at a bamboo workshop under a master bamboo fence maker with 70 years of history and make your own chopsticks and tableware.
Lastly, enjoy a one of a kind dinner made with freshly harvested organic vegetables, organic Kameoka rice and meat around a campfire.
The menu may include local beef BBQ or hot pot dish from local game meat. *Subject to change based on season and availability.

Try your hand at Kyoto-style indigo dyeing, recently rediscovered after almost a century of it being lost.
Your bubbly and loveable instructor will happily teach you about indigo and its history, explaining the various techniques and why fabric dyed in natural fermented indigo does not fade easily and lasts such a long time.No limit to creativity, make your very own unique design!

See how soy sauce is really made at an authentic soy sauce factory with 150 years of history, in the massive 2-meters tall wooden vats at the back of the factory.
Try your hand at mixing the soy malt yourself and even sample authentic soy sauce without any preservatives or additives.

Tanzan Shuzo sake brewery
Duration approx. 15 minutes

Visit a 140 years old brewery and sample 6 different types of rice wine made from local water and special rice grown by the brewery itself.
Savor the delicate flavors of various types of sake made with utmost care and attention and conclude the tour with a celebratory toast.

From Tanzan Shuzo we will walk to the JR Kameoka Station.
The tour concludes in front of the ticket gate of the station.
