Okochi Villa

Beautiful garden created over 30 years by a famous actor

Okochi Sanso is a villa with a circular garden built by Denjiro Okochi, a famous Showa-era movie actor. It incorporates borrowed scenery of Mount Hiei and the nearby Arashiyama – Hozukyo Gorge.
The grounds include a modern Japanese-style building designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan and a Japanese garden, where visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery in each of the four seasons. Especially during the season of autumn foliage, the garden is colored with rich colors making it the perfect spot for admiring the magnificent scenery.
The admission fee also includes matcha green tea and sweets, so visitors can enjoy a cup of tea before or after strolling through the garden.
For tourists and locals alike, Okochi Sanso is one of the must-see spots when visiting Arashiyama, a wonderful blend of history and nature.
