Saga Arashiyama Museum of Culture

Museum aiming to convey the best of Japanese painting

This museum conveys the history and charm of the Hyakunin Isshu anthology of 100 poems said to have originated in the Arashiyama area, as well as the essence of Japanese-style painting.
After climbing the stone steps and passing through the gate, visitors enter the stone garden where they can enjoy the beauty of the four seasons: weeping cherry blossoms in spring, azaleas in early summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snow-capped leaves in winter. The view from the second floor, with Mt. Ogura, famous for the Hyakunin Isshu in the background, incorporating famous scenic spots such as Arashiyama and the Oigawa River as borrowed scenery, is just like the world of a Japanese painting. The museum holds exciting exhibitions each season so that everyone can experience and enjoy the beauty of Japan and its beautiful natural surroundings.
